Making the business case

How much is conflict costing your organisation? Think of it this way:-

A disciplinary or grievance case will cost you at least £3000 in direct costs (CIPD 2008 Conflict at Work Survey)
On average, handling a disciplinary takes about 10½ days of management time (CIPD 2004 Survey)
An employment tribunal will cost you around £14,000 to manage (& a lot more if you lose!) (CIPD, 2008)

On the plus side, training in mediation skills has been demonstrated to more than halve your number of disciplinary cases, and to significantly reduce grievances, simply by providing a more positive and constructive alternative to formal, evidential processes (CIPD, 2008)
