On GMTV this week, Nigel Gray (of Roguecustomer.com) and Tommy Walsh (known from BBC's Ground Force) discussed the disputes raised by both traders and customers in the building trade and associated industries.
Each year, thousands of disputes remain unresolved between customers and trades people. This can mean unfinished jobs, half-constructed buildings and maintenance that is never completed. It can also mean the trader being left out-of-pocket with few routes to take.
One of the problems discussed during the feature, was the expense of taking legal action to enforce customers to pay their dues. The length of time and amount of expense (not to mention the inconvenience) of going to court, makes the process almost too unattractive to comprehend.
There are, of course, other options. Commercial Mediation is one of them. Not only is it cheaper and quicker, but it can also help restore relations between the disputing parties and get the work moving again. It's a win-win situation without the expense, and an Agreement reached between parties can ensure that the customer gets the service they require and, just as importantly, the provider will get the money they are owed.
