Mediation trial cuts tribunal costs

A number of employment tribunals have have recently been conducting trials into mediation as a cost-cutting option for dispute resolution.

The scheme was introduced by the Tribunals Service in order to test how effective mediation could be when settling claims such as discrimination. The results showed that in most cases, mediation led to agreements being made without the need for a tribunal hearing.
