UK Mediation were commissioned by Durham University to run the 4-day Mediation Practitioner’s Certificate in March/April 2009 and have since been asked to run a one-day Bullying Awareness Programme.
A mixture of H.R. managers and managers from the Academic Office attended the Practitioner’s Certificate in March/April 2009 in order to explore and develop the skills associated with mediation. The course facilitator ensured that the course was not only challenging and informative but also highly relevant. The programme involved a number of pertinent case-studies and offered plenty of opportunities to practice skills. The trainer also gave extremely valuable advice on how to complete the portfolio of evidence to enable participants to gain the level 3 qualification through the Open College Network.
Mr Mark Crabtree, Assistant Director of H.R, Training and Development, University of Durham
The course was run in a way that meant I felt as though I had been mentally and physically trained; it was thorough, thought provoking and at times hard work – a proper training course. Excellent, worth every minute.
Learner, Southend NHS University Trust June 2011
I thought the trainer was highly skilled and that greatly assisted in setting the right atmosphere and a creative learning environment. I have rarely been on a course where all participants engaged willingly in role play which most people avoid/dislike. I also liked how the content was flexible and responded to what the participants needed.

I plan to use skills in my role as a parent support advisor doing family mediation in an informed format. Trainer was excellent – highly knowledgeable and dynamic. Facilitation of the course was excellent, lots of encouragement and felt at ease. Will use the skills to mediate between young people at risk of being made homeless and their parents or carers. A clear, concise and inspiring trainer.

The interaction from the trainer was encouraging which allowed for greater understanding of the topic. This in turn helped to build on my lack of confidence.
A very informative and reflective course. I enjoyed finding out the meaning of mediation and what effect it can have on the individual.
This course was challenging, but extremely informative. A useful tool for building on my skills and getting our experience validated.
I found this course very rewarding with a knowledgeable and encouraging trainer. A hands on exploration of the issues and roles allows for better understanding of the topic.
Learners, Hampshire Police May 2008
The course was strong on theory and practice. I was enthused to begin mediation and think about more mediation training in other areas.
The trainer was calm, reassuring and communicative. Developed my confidence throughout the course.

We received training from UK Mediation in May 2009 to assist staff in managing problems between service users and staff and between staff. The training provided was highly relevant, giving ample opportunity to learn and develop the necessary skills for this important role.
Our trainer was excellent in presenting and teaching the diverse group of staff, from administrative, management and clinical. The training was delivered in a well paced and active way, with role play and discussion the main tool. The content was completely appropriate to our needs, and the accreditation added value. We are planning to engage UK Mediation later this year to provide refresher training and additional staff training.
Neil West, Assistant Director Secure Services, SEPT Secure Mental Health Services, Essex
Most definitely would recommend UK Mediation. I thoroughly enjoyed the training, found it very insightful and learned lots of useful tips that I can use in a day to day work setting. The tutor was very knowledgeable, approachable, and good at sharing personal experiences which I found extremely helpful. She also offered post training assistance if needed. The contact I have had with UK Mediation has been handled very professionally on every occasion. Thank you.

The role plays allowed me to try out the mediation process from both sides. I plan to use the skills when dealing with disputes between neighbours. The course was very well carried out. It was very thorough and at a pace that enabled me to learn through various materials and active skills work.
